H2H Sketch Challenge

This week on the Heart 2 Heart Challenge Blog is the ever popular sketch challenge. The best thing about this challenge is that you get to choose which sketch you would like to use. You can either choose to use the round sketch like I did or use the rectangular sketch.

I was excited to pull out a clear card for this one. (I haven’t used one in a while and I forgot how much fun they are!) Are you tired of seeing my pink projects lately? What can I say? I just love the color pink. *Ü* I used the backside of the floral paper from the Sweetheart Paper Packet along with some Hollyhock Cardstock. Cotton Candy Cardstock really matches this paper better, but since I used some Hollyhock Grosgrain Ribbon, I wanted the cardstock to match.

The stamped image is from CTMH’s darling Piece of Cake set. I stamped it with Cocoa Ink and then colored it in with some CTMH markers. It is hard to tell from the photo, but I used a Silver Glitter Gelly Roll pen to color in the center of all of the flowers. In the light, the flower centers sparkle quite a bit.

Be sure to check out the other Design Team Members take on this week's challenge:
Corina Mitchell

Debbie Carriere

Karen Day

Lorrinda Holman

Mary Vogel

Melinda Everitt

Jessica Moore

Now it’s your turn. Head on over to the H2H Challenge Blog and
link your creation based on one of the sketches. You can win great prizes and maybe even be chosen as a future Guest Design Team Member! Remember to use mostly CTMH products since it is a CTMH Challenge Blog. I can't wait to see what you create!

All supplies used at from Close to my Heart unless otherwise noted:
Stamps: Piece of Cake, Happy Birthday

Paper: Sweetheart, Hollyhock CS
Inks: Cocoa
Other: Clear Card, Hollyhock Grosgrain Ribbon, Hollyhock Brads (from discounted arrows pack),
Silver Gelly Roll Pen

Card Box Workshop

I have spots open for my Card Box Workshop on Saturday April 9th from 1pm - 4pm. The class was originally going to be for Mothers and Daughters, but since I have space available, I am opening it up to anyone who would like to join us. Since the kits consist of all of the supplies to make two boxes, you can split the cost and sign up with a friend, a sister, or a neighbor, or you can just make both boxes yourself. *Ü*

In addition to making these cute boxes to hold cards, you will also make 4 tabs to go inside each box to separate your Birthday, Thank You, Holiday, and Misc. cards. Each kit will come with enough supplies to create two boxes. For $30, you will receive:
Contact me today to reserve your space.

And the winner is...

Thank you all so much for helping me celebrate my 250,000 blog hit milestone. It is because of all of you that I created my blog and continue to post. (Sometimes I wonder if anyone is even looking at my blog and then when I check the number of hits, I realize that there are people who take the time to come by and visit. Thank you!) As promised, I have answered the many questions that were posted as entries into my blog candy contest. I LOVED reading the comments from other CTMH Consultants and why they enjoy being Consultants. I also loved reading all of the questions from those of you who are not currently Consultants. The answers to all of your questions are below in addition to the top 10 reasons why I love being a Close to my Heart Consultant.

If you have ever thought about signing up, even just for the great discount, I promise you will be glad that you did. I'd love to have you on my team, so if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. And, if you are ready to order your New Consultant Kit, you can do that here.

OK, now for the big moment that you have all been waiting for.....
The winner of my blog candy is...

levelsoflight who, on March 23, 2011 at 5:13 PM, said...“Your creations are always so beautiful! I considered becoming a CTMH consultant, but I don't have time to dedicate to hosting parties and going to gatherings. Once I become a full-time teacher (yay!), my focus needs to be on my students and their curriculum. However, I've heard the term "hobbyist" before, but I have no idea what that means. Is that a different type of CTMH consultant? Also, thanks for offering the blog candy! It's such a generous gift!” (I answered her question below in case you are interested in the hobbyist opportunity.)

Levelsofflight was poster #31 and 31 was the number chosen by random.org. (I assigned all of the facebook posters a number as well, so the total number of posts/comments was 54. Congratulations levelsoflight. Please contact me at lisa@myctmh.com by April 1st with your mailing address so I can send you the box of goodies. If she does not contact me by April 1st, I will pick a new winner.

Before I share my answers to your questions, I would like to share the top 10 reasons why I LOVE being a CTMH Consultant:

  1. Top-notch, trend-setting products that can be ordered as needed. We don't have to carry any inventory!
  2. Training - Fantastic FREE online training classes and corporate sponsored events throughout the year.
  3. Generous compensation program and product discounts and ways to earn FREE product.
  4. Wonderful friends and “co-workers.” (Actually we're more like a family.)
  5. Incentive trips and other rewards.
  6. The option to have a MyCTMH website where we can get internet sales including Studio J, our online digital scrapbooking program. (Your friends and customers can create layout on their computer and can shop at home 24 hours a day, even in their jammies. LOL!)
  7. Operation Smile (the charity that CTMH supports) is such a worthy cause.
  8. Jeanette Lynton (Founder & CEO) and the Corporate Staff are wonderful. They actually listen to the Consultants and implement many of the ideas that we suggest.
  9. CTMH appreciates both their business builders & hobbyists and do their best to support all of us.
  10. The flexibility of "working" only when I want to. (And actually I don't consider it "work" when I am having fun.)

Below are the answers to your questions. There were some very good ones too!

The Owens said...
Do you find that you are doing more classes as opposed to home "parties"?
Right now I do find that I am doing more classes than parties. It seems to go in waves, but lately, I am doing more classes.

Marcia, Pam Z., Phyllis Houser, and Rebecca's Card Hobby asked
Where do you find your ideas and inspiration? How long does it take to you make a card?
I find many of my ideas from other talented bloggers. There is so much talent out there that it is hard to walk away from my computer at times. I also get a lot of ideas and inspiration from the CTMH Idea Books and the How-To Books. As far as how long it takes for me to make a card, well, it can be anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 days. LOL! Sometimes that mojo is just gone and I can't get creative for the life of me.

Rebecca said...Lisa, I am a fellow consultant in TN. I have been with the company for over four years! Up until now, I have just been a 'hobbyist'. However, I have my first Gathering this weekend. Any advice?? :)
My biggest advice, is to just have fun. When you enjoy something, it is easy to share it with others.

Sheila H said...I love CTMH products, but I've never really considered being a consultant because, frankly, I don't know enough people.
Hi Sheila. You don't really need to know many people to get started. You just start by having a party with your friends and family and ask if any of them will have a party for you too. Then they invite their friends and family. As soon as you get out of your circle of friends, it actually gets easier. And the best part is that you will make TONS of new friends in the process.

Lorna said... In addition to being a CTMH, do you work outside the home?
I used to be a Graphic Designer, but now that I have two adorable kiddos, I am blessed to be able to stay home with them. The great thing about being a CTMH Consultant is that I get to "work" when I want to and am able to be home for the kids when they need me.

Corinne said... Do you know many consultants who utilize their status purely for their own benefit, and do they stick with it for the long run?
Corinne, I have a ton of gals under me who signed up just to get the discount for themselves and maybe for their friends. (Actually that is why I originally signed up 6 years ago.) We like to call them "hobbyists" or "Customer Consultants." In fact, if someone really likes the products and orders quite a bit, I always suggest that they sign up to get the discount for themselves. Many of my "hobbyists" have been Consultants for years.

Dawn said...My question for you is... what's your tip for building your client base as a new consultant?
I just talk about CTMH with everyone. You'd be surprised at how many people perk up when they find out you teach stamping and scrapbooking. I also love using my blog and facebook to share my business.

peggylee said... My question is how to build a team when you are all alone (my upline is soooo far away)?
Just like my answer above about building a client base, I share my passion for CTMH with everyone. Some people will want to host parties, some will want to attend a club or workshop, and some will want to take advantage of everything that is offered by signing up as a Consultant.

Darla said...CTMH seems like a great company, what do you like best about working for them?
Since we are Independent Consultants, I don't actually work for CTMH. This means that I have my own business and can run it any way I like, which is one of the things I lie best. I can choose to "work" although it really isn't work, as much or as little as I like. I can choose to do parties, classes, clubs, be a vendor at various events, whatever I want to do. In addition to working with the best products on the market, I think the flexibility of running my own business is what I like best. Check out my top 10 list above.

Josee said...My question for you is, what's the biggest reward outside of financial reasons for being a CTMH consultant?
I think the biggest reward is the friendship I have created. I would never have met most of the gals I have become such great friends with without CTMH. I also like sharing my passion for paper crafting with others.

Cheryl Winget said...Are some consultants completely web-based or is there no way to handle the job without gathering people together?
Great question. I think there are many web based Consultants now. Gathering people together is a great way to meet new people and grow your business, but with all of the new social media outlets these days, you could certainly run a successful CTMH business online. Studio J, our online "digital" scrapbooking option is a wonderful way to build an online business in addition to our great MyCTMH websites. And by having a blog, facebook page, and using Twitter, you could build up an online business in no time!

Kim Bernosky said...I am contemplating becoming a consultant. What is the greatest benefit you get from being a consultant?
Oh Kim, there are just so many benefits. LOL! I love being able to order new product before anyone else. I love being able to meet new people and build friendships with those who share by passion for paper crafting. I LOVE the top notch products. I love the online training academy and training events available to Consultants. I could go on and on...

Michelle said...My question would be, what has been your favorite project/page/card that you have made?
Wow! That is a tough one. Hmm...I think probably the layouts that have photos of my family are my favorites. Here are a couple of my favs: http://lisascreativecorner.blogspot.com/2009/09/celebrate-everyday.html and http://lisascreativecorner.blogspot.com/2008/08/christmas-layout.html . Also, this is a layout I did 5 years ago when I turned 35: http://lisascreativecorner.blogspot.com/2008/01/35-things-about-me.html I like it because I don't do a lot of layouts about myself and it is fun to do this once in a while. I think now that I am 40, it is time to do another one. LOL!

levelsoflight said... I've heard the term "hobbyist" before, but I have no idea what that means. Is that a different type of CTMH consultant?
Everyone who signs up has the same access to discounts and training materials. The term "hobbyist" simply refers to someone who doesn't want to build a business with CTMH. They usually sign up just to get a great discount for themselves and/or their friends. I love that CTMH supports that type of Consultant just as much as a regular business builder.

Happy Little Crafter said...What is the percentage off a consultant receives when ordering CTMH items for themselves?
Another great question. At the moment, all active Consultants receive anywhere from 22-34% discount on their orders, whether it is for themselves or for a customer. The amount is determined by the total orders placed during that particular month. I am not sure if I am allowed to share this, but my inside sources tell me that the compensation plan will be changing later this year and from what I have seen, it will be getting even better! (wink, wink)

linda m said...How much time do you need each week to devote to your "work" :)?
Well, if you can even call it "work," I spend a different amount of time each week. It all depends on what my family commitments are that week. Some weeks, I spend 10-20 hours if I am prepping for a class or a meeting, while other weeks I only spend 5-10 hours. The beauty of this business is that we can determine how much time we want to spend and when. *Ü*

Thanks for all of the great questions. Please contact me if you have any others that aren't listed above. I would love to chat with you more about joining my team! *Ü*

Hope for Japan Stamp Set

I know you, like me, have probably been watching the news about the devastation in Japan from the earthquakes and tsunami. After dealing with the after effects of a MUCH smaller (but still large) earthquake in Northridge, CA many years ago, I can only begin to imagine what these poor people must be dealing with right now.

I was thrilled to hear that Close to my Heart’s Founder and CEO, Jeanette Lynton, has graciously decided to offer a special way for all of us to make a difference for the Japanese people. A special stamp set has been designed to be sold starting today - April 30th. Typically, our A-size sets retail for $7.95, but the “Hope for Japan” set will be just $5 — and Close To My Heart will be donating 100% of the profits to the American Red Cross to benefit relief efforts in Japan.

This beautifully designed stamp set reminds us of how our hearts are hopeful for those who are in need.

If you are interested in purchasing this set, you can either order it directly from my website here, or contact me and I will be happy to order one for you.

If we all do a little, together we can do a lot. Let’s show our support and together, provide real HOPE for Japan!

H2H Challenge - Oh Baby!

This week’s Heart 2 Heart Challenge is all about babies. The challenge is to create a baby-themed card, gift item, etc. I created this simple little card for a baby girl. I used one of my favorite new products, the Irresistibles Eclectic Chipboard Die-Cuts. I just LOVE these things. You can color them any color you like by sponging ink on them and then the “hidden” pattern that is on each letter pops. (My kids love watching me make the ‘magic pattern’ appear.)

I inked the letters with Baby Pink ink. Then I stamped the words “sweet” and “Girl” with the Sweet Baby set in Hollyhock ink. After adding some Sparkles to the middle of the flower buttons from the Basic Buttons Assortment Pack, I added them to the letters for a little more cutesie bling. The Hollyhock Twill Ribbon on top sort of reminds me of a little bow in a cute new baby’s hair. (Although when my daughter was a baby, we had to tape a bow on her head if we wanted one in her “hair.” LOL!)

The card is cut short at the bottom to reveal the pink polka dot pattern from the Sweetheart Paper Pack on the inside of the card.

Head on over to the Heart 2 Heart Challenge Blog to check out the rest of the Design Team’s adorable creations. Then be sure to add a link to your own baby item created using mostly CTMH materials. You may win a prize at the end of the month or even get the opportunity to be a guest Design Team member! Oh Baby!

250,000 Hits - It's almost time for some blog candy!

Wow! I have some faithful readers! I am very close to having 250K hits on my blog! I think that deserves a celebration. I will be putting together some blog candy and coming up with a little contest as soon as my blog counter reaches 250,000, which should be sometime within the next week or so.
So, stay tuned for more info...

Thanks for visiting my humble little Creative Corner!

Blessings,

New Facebook Page and a PRIZE!

I have had a personal Facebook page for a while and decided to create a special page for my Close to my Heart business. I met a sweet, sweet gal at a vendor event that I did this past weekend (see photo above) and she told me all about her business Facebook page and convinced me to finally create one.

The gal I met, Kristie Mansfield, is a Scentsy Director and let me just tell you that her booth smelled FABULOUS all weekend. Be sure to check out her website here and her Facebook page here. (If you “like” her FB page, be sure to post on her wall that Lisa Stenz sent you. )

Kristie has such a great challenge on her FB page right now that I thought I would do the same. So, be sure to visit my new CTMH FB page and “like” it, then tell all of your friends about it because I have a $20 CTMH gift certificate that will go to the person that refers the most people to my page. Make sure to tell them that they need to post who sent them on my wall for it to count. And, if you post a comment on my wall that says you read about the challenge on my blog, it will count as your first “referral.”

Ready. Set. GO! The challenge will end on April 1st! I will announce the winner here on my blog as well as on my new CTMH FB page! *Ü*

Click here to visit my new FB page and be sure to “like it” if you, well...like it. LOL! *Ü*

H2H Home Decor Challenge - Wedding Frame

This week the Heart 2 Heart Challenge Blog is hosting a “From Your Heart to Ours” challenge. The challenge is to share a Home Decor item. I wanted to share this picture frame that I made using the new Bliss paper packet, Level 2 Assortment, and Irresistibles Villa Die Cuts.

I started with a $1 wooden frame from Michaels. I painted the edges with the white acrylic paint from our Distressing Kit mixed with some Heavenly Blue and Chocolate Re-inkers. Then I covered the frame with two different patterns from the Bliss paper packet. After sponging some Chocolate ink around the edges, I covered the seam with some Cocoa Ribbon. I sponged some Chocolate ink onto one of the Irresistible Die Cuts before adding it to the frame. (I love the Irresistibles because you can make them any color you like. Just sponge some ink on top and the pre-printed pattern pops and you have an instant embellishment to match any project.) I added a couple of butterflies and a flower from the Bliss Assortment Pack and was done.

The photo inside is of my hubby and me on our wedding day 10 years ago. *Ü*

Head on over to the H2H blog to see what the rest of the design team created for this fun challenge. They designed some projects that are sure to spark your creativity.

Now we’d love to see how you’ve used Close to my Heart products to make an item to decorate your home. Be sure to link it to the H2H blog for your chance to win some great prizes and maybe even be chosen as a Guest Designer next month!

3 Images Card - H2H Challenge

The Heart 2 Heart Challenge this week is to create a card using 3 images to create a “scene.” I actually have 2 sets of 3 images in my card. The first set is the clouds. The second set is the flowers. To make the clouds, I cut out a cloud shape with some cardstock and used it as a mask while I chalked around it with some Heavenly Blue chalk. You can even stamp the clouds from the T.L.C., Over the Rainbow, or True Happiness sets and cut them out to use as a mask. The flowers were made using our cute new Basic Assortment Buttons. I used the white flower buttons from the mix. After I punched some Sunny Yellow circles out with a hole punch, I adhered the circles inside the buttons with some Liquid Glass and added some extra Liquid Glass on top to make them shiny.

The flower stems were made using the
Fill in the Blank stamp set, like I did in my layout here. I used a Sweet Leaf marker to make the leaves. The grass is stamped in Sweet Leaf using the True Happiness set. Finally, I used the sweet sentiment from the April stamp of the month called Blessed. This set will be available to order on April 1st!

Pop on over the the H2H Challenge Blog to see what the other Design Team Members created. You will be blown away by their creativity! (My card is not worthy to be in the mix with theirs!) Then create a card with your own 3 image “scene” and link it to the H2H Blog. You may even win a prize at the end of the month from one of our generous sponsors! *Ü*

Have a great week!

ETA: OK, so I messed up on this week's challenge. Even being on the Design Team, I didn't pay close enough attention to the challenge. LOL! I thought we were supposed to create a card using 3 of the same images. I didn't realize that we were supposed to use different images and that they were supposed to be stamped images. Oy vey! Sorry about that. I hope you enjoy my humble little card anyway. *Ü*

All supplies used are from CTMH unless otherwise noted:
Stamps: Blessed, Fill in the Blank, True Happiness
Paper: White Daisy, Sunny Yellow Cardstock
Inks: Cocoa, Sweet Leaf
Other:
Basic Button Assortment, Liquid Glass, Hole Punch, Chalks
